COMPASSION
(Love In Action)
|
We live in a hurting and broken world. People need to know someone cares and that there is hope beyond the pain and uncertainty of the moment. At Cornerstone we want to live out God's call to go into all the world, not just with words, but with loving hearts and serving hands.
Some of the ways we do this in our immediate area includes:

Local Acts of Compassion and Love
When a true need arises in our community we try to help as much as possible. Whether that need is helping to pile wood for someone who is unable to, providing a helping hand to that individual or family who is going through a difficult time, or providing food and financial assistance, we want to help.

Wood Ministry
We have stumbled upon a simple yet profound way to reach out to the community and share God's love. During the winter, some of our neighbors are faced with a choice between putting food on the table and heating their homes. When this need was brought before the "Mission Possible" Team, it was agreed that we should take an active role in trying to meet this very real need. The end result was a
concerted effort to gather workers, wood and equipment for the
splitting, stacking and distribution of firewood for those in need.

We believe that God has called us to reach out to those around us. To reach out in love and meet the needs of those in difficult
circumstances.
James 1:27 tells us that the "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their
distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."
Matthew 25:35,36,40 says, "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. The King will reply, "I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me."
Isaiah 61:1 foretells the ministry focus of Jesus "The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion - to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor."

Salvation Army
We want to lend a hand to support and encourage the work of the
Salvation Army. As part of our extended ministry we want to encourage people to volunteer and assist with the ministries of the Kemptville
Salvation Army as it ministers to some of the practical needs of people in our communities.

The Ottawa Mission
We encourage individuals and families to support the work of Ottawa Mission by responding to specific needs and volunteering their time to help with serving meals or other practical ways.
Beyond our immediate community needs we also expand Christ's love into other parts of the world through:

Health Partners International Canada (HPIC)
Providing health and spreading hope is the mission of Health Partners International Canada (HPIC), a Canadian humanitarian organization that sent its first shipment or medical aid in 1990. HPIC has shipped more that $260 million (wholesale value) in donated medicines,
vaccines, medical supplies and devices since 1990.
Cornerstone has become a partner with HPIC and together we are working to improve the health and lives of children and adults in the developing world.
Whether that is working as a group to repackage and prepare for
shipping thousands of dollars worth of medicines and supplies, helping to fund medical travel packs or purchasing medicines to go into other parts of the world, we want to make a difference with HPIC.

Operation Northern Lights (ONL)
Pastor David Naylor is working in Northern Ontario to help get the
message of Jesus and His love to people. In areas where many churches are closing, David has a vision to begin new works that will make a difference in these communities. We, at Cornerstone, support this work financially and prayerfully.

At Cornerstone we are active in the ministry of Global Partners in two primary fields - Mexico and Ghana.
We have been sending individuals from our church as work teams, to Mexico, to help with hands on ministry to children and youth, as well as assisting with building and renovating churches. Presently we are
helping to provclasse resources for the training of pastors in various churches in northern Mexico and looking at new projects and
opportunities on a regular basis.
In Ghana, we have been assisting to provide needed materials and resources to aid the leaders with making Christ known to many
communities. Recently, Cornerstone sent a team who went into a small village in the northern part of Ghana to provide materials and help build a worship structure. Through this trip a greater vision was created and our Senior Pastor is now looking at the possibility of returning on a regular basis to help teach and equip the pastors. As well, we are
looking at other projects available for us to touch the lives of the people of Ghana.

Gift-Based Service
The leadership at Cornerstone is really passionate about helping
people to find fulfillment in making a difference in the world. One of the
best ways to do this is to encourage people to find and use the gifts God
has given to them through many different contexts and avenues. At present, we
are actively supporting KC Leader who is serving, for a two year term,
on the ship "Logos Hope" with Operation Mobilization (OM) .
