Hope Boxes are for individuals and families who have lost a baby through any type of infant loss. 1 in 5 pregnancies end in miscarriage and in Canada every 6 in 1000 pregnancies end in stillbirth. Many times this kind of loss is very isolating, confusing, deeply personal for the mother in particular and comes with a lack of resources to help with the grieving process. Unfortunately follow-up and counselling are not often offered and there is a lack of monitoring for postpartum depression, which can occur even with early miscarriage. With a lack of support, many families, and women in particular struggle with feeling ashamed and alone. Acknowledging the life of a child, as short as it may have been, is tremendously helpful in the healing process and finding Hope!
Our boxes contain “pampering” gifts such as a Christian music cd, tea, lotion, lip balm, a Bible, books, a handwritten note, brochures and a bracelet, along with other items. We want to give Biblical resources without overwhelming a Hope Mom, and therefore send them any two of the resources. We have partnered alongside Riverside Community Church who started this initiative to reach out to women and families in Northern Ontario. They have given out over 80 boxes, not only in their area but across Canada. We are excited to become a Hope Box centre in the Ottawa area and connect with new Hope Moms near us.
Hope Boxes can also be donated in honour of a loved one. If you know of anyone who recently experienced a loss, we encourage you to consider giving them a Hope Box! Would you join us in this specific HOPE BOX program? Each box costs $50 to complete. Would you, your church, your small group, women’s group, even your family consider sponsoring a box and giving HOPE to a family in need? If you’d like to give a box in honour of someone please specify on your donation. All donations go through Cornerstone Wesleyan Church, designated Hope Boxes, and are tax deductible.
